This privacy policy describes how Megaphone ("MM", "we" or "us") uses your personal information. As used in this policy, the term “personal information” means information that can be directly associated with an individual, and includes names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, etc.

E-mail Addresses

We require your e-mail address when you donate so that we can e-mail you a receipt. Also, you may choose to receive occasional e-mail updates as we develop MM. You can instantly unsubscribe at any time by clicking here. If you are having problems with this link, you can unsubscribe by e-mailing [email protected], but please allow a week for processing.

Information Collected by CSP

When you contribute to MM, we are required to collect certain information in accordance with federal, state, and local campaign finance laws. To comply with these laws, we currently collect and disclose your name, mailing address, occupation, the name of your employer, and the amount of your contribution. MM submits its campaign finance reports on a rolling basis, as required by federal, state, and/or local laws. Federal Election Commission reports containing this information are publicly available at, whereas state and local reports are typically available through the state or local agency designated to oversee campaigns and elections.

Credit Card Information

For security reasons, MM does not store your credit card information. Rather, we securely transmit your credit card information to Stripe (our payment processor). We also request your email address when you contribute so that we can reach you should further verification of your credit card information be required.

Third Parties

Credit card transaction processing on is provided by Stripe. MM may share your personal data to these and other third parties in connection with the processing of your contributions or other services we offer. Other third party vendors, such as Google, may use cookies or other technologies to serve ads on other websites based on your visits to the MM site and other sites on the internet. This policy does not apply to, and we are not responsible for, cookies and other technologies used by third parties, and we encourage you to check the privacy policies of these third parties.


Some parts of the MM site may collect certain information through the use of “cookies” to improve our site and enhance your user experience. A cookie is a tiny data files stored on your computer. You can disable these cookies by modifying your web browser preferences.

Use of Personal Information

Your right to privacy is important, and it is our policy not to sell your personal information to third parties or any commercial entity for commercial purposes not specifically related to politics or issues. Personal information may be used by MM (i) to comply with federal, state, and local campaign finance laws; (ii) to communicate with you regarding your contribution receipts, MM alerts, and updates to the MM site; (iii) to analyze usage so we can improve the functionality of the site and personalize content based on the information you provide and the actions you take; (iv) and for any other lawful purpose. Personal information may be shared between the various legal entities that make up MM, to third parties engaged by MM to carry out their work for us, and to campaigns, organizations, and groups that MM believes has similar political viewpoints, principles, or objectives. Other than as described above, we will not use your personal information nor release it to any other party without your permission, unless we believe it is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, violations of our terms of use, or as otherwise required by law.

IP Addresses

We log IP addresses, which are the locations of computers or networks on the Internet, and analyze them for systems administration and troubleshooting purposes. We also aggregate the number of page hits in order to track the popularity of certain pages and improve the quality of our site. There is no personal information collected in our log files.


MM does not knowingly solicit or collect personally identifying information from children under the age of 13. In fact, MM’s Terms of Use requires that you are 18 years or older (or, if you are between the ages of 13 and 17 years old, you are using the Services with the consent of or are supervised by a parent or guardian).

Changes to Policy
